Sankalpa seeds
The end of the year is approaching and I find myself evaluating where I have come and where I am going more. This is when I like to reiterate in my classes, intention.
Sankalpa, meaning purpose or will is often described as a seed of intention. This seed is something for yourself to come back to, to nourish in meditation. To not only create a positive resolution of sorts but to actually change you, your way of thinking, acting, living. Manifesting your sankalpa in to action, allowing that seed of will flourish into the best you. Unlike typical resolutions which can be a negative way of thinking, sankalpa is a way of changing your thinking altogether. Instead of saying I wish or I could, sankalpas would sound more like I am. Try a snakalpa seed, their fruit is delicious! Happy sankalpa planting everyone!

Moving on up
Winter is coming, a new year is approaching. Time to evaluate the past year, create new goals and take hold of what is most important. To stay on your path with strong will, mind and body I suggest more than ever keeping a schedule for yourself to yoga, meditate and gather your thoughts. Having regrets will only take you further from yourself so live your life fullest today and don't look back, always move forward. Namaste!

Learning to listen, what your body has to say!
Ok I have had just about enough of those articles stating "caffeine is killing you", "gluten free or die", "kale for life"etcetcetc!
Do these articles have some good points, Sure they do! But if I listened to everyone of these articles and changed my life accordingly I would be STARVED and likely malnourished!
I have found, as have my students that the more you yoga the more in tune with your body you become. The more in tune you are the more specific your cravings become as well as when and how much to eat.
For example, when I have done several classes in one day I tend to crave potassium and calcium rich foods like coconut and kale chips YUM! And water! Which I generally tend to loath!
Your body tells you all the time what it needs, it just asks you give it some time and space in order to hear it.
Does this miraculous knowledge come instantly with a yoga class? No, although you do get to know your body better as soon as you step on that mat;) It takes time and you have to give yourself that time following through with a yoga regimen that works for you in order to see results you are looking for. Its not a diet its a way to life! We are constantly evolving creatures with constantly evolving needs, so why not continue to check in with yourself to see what it needs day to day.
So maybe check in for some yoga before turkey feasting this year, your body(and mind) will thank you! Namaste

Just do it!
You don't have to have it all figured out to move forward.

Take care
Taking care of others is rewarding and beautiful but I realized at a young age that if you do not care for yourself first you can not give fully to others.
That is a lesson we all seem to need reminding of from time to time.
Yoga has always been my go to for getting back to myself, my mental clarity, my balance, my overall rejuvenation. Yoga at times felt over indulgent, I had things to do and people to care for! But it was always clear after my yoga practice that I and everyone around me would have suffered if I had not taken the time to return to my balance.
So as these busy holiday times are quickly approaching, don't forget to take time for yourself so you can keep on giving.
"A thousand candles can be lighted from the flame of one candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness can be spread without diminishing that of yourself."
— Mahatma Gandhi
